Activity Day at Doe Park

Published by Miss Draper under Uncategorized

On Thursday 4th June 2009, 29 children from Year 5 had the fantastic opportunity to spend the day at Doe Park reservoir. The children were split into four groups and spent half their day on the water and the other half of their day taking part in land-based activities.

Children had the opportunity to canoe in yellow inflatables and build their own raft using only ropes, barrels and poles. They did brilliantly as the raft floated although many children fell in trying to change positions!

All children had a great day and I hope more children get the opportunity to participate in such a fun day in the future!

If you find out any interesting facts about water please post them here on the Year Five blog!!!

Also, if you find any good websites about water that you think will interest other children in our year group you could post them here too.

If you post a fact you can have 5 individual points! :)

Victorian School Day

Published by Miss Bennett under history

As part of our topic, we held a Victorian day in Year Five on Wednesday 18th March.   Tables were arranged in rows and lessons were typical of  Victorian times.  Children had to chant their times tables, practice their cursive handwriting and recite poetry.  Silly children were made to wear the Dunce’s hat and naughty children came to the front for “six of the best”. (Although thankfully, the teachers were only pretending!)  After learning a typical Victorian Song “All Things Bright and Beautiful” the children played traditional games out in the playground.

Charles Dickens

Published by Barbara Jones under Literacy

It seems some of year 5 are very interested in Charles Dickens. So I have started a dipity timeline at www.dipity.com If you want to add to it please login as lidget with the usual password ;-)

Remember only use images which you are allowed to use as it would be a shame if it was taken down because we had broken copyright rules.
